Walleye
Fishing at McNary Dam can be a lot of fun as
well as total frustration. Especially
if you see all those darn sturgeon fisherman
out there. Why? Because they catch
BIG FISH, however there are plenty of walleye
to catch.

As
you can imagine finding the fish is not that
hard but getting them to bite is another story.
We
always work the banks on either side of the
river below McNary dam. 15-25 feet of
water is where we catch them. This past year
we had a lot of luck trolling upriver using
plugs. My favorites are always silver/blue and
it really doesn't matter what you use.

They
all work. What I did do differently this
year that made a big difference is to use a
bottom bouncer ahead of my plugs.
Fishing
below McNary Dam is tricky and rocky. That is
why I switched to the bottom bouncers because
they have a tendency to keep you out of danger.
Do
hold your fishing rod and be ready to give and
take line. By holding your rod you can save
yourself a lot of plugs. If you want to be lazy
and use the rod holder them my suggestion is
to stay away from bottom bouncers.
